What's the difference between burgundy and cardinal in terms of colors?

the HS I attended stated back when I was a student there four years ago that the school colors were burgundy, gold and gray but now they switched to cardinal, gold and gray. Also before it was burgundy they said it was maroon. Someone please help me distinct these color differences: burgundy, cardinal, maroon.
